Area 2 Advisory Council meeting
The Area 2 Advisory Council will hold its regular meeting this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Council member Videria Tarver will provide the inspirational message.
The only business before the panel is the July financial report and election of officers for the 2009-2010 year. The group delayed the election from last month to give all the members -- including two new ones -- the opportunity to vote. Sitting on the Council will be newcomers Karen Key and Carey Hutto, along with veteran members Kenneth Hopkins, Darrell Blocker, Suzanne Rudisill, Larry Anderson and Valeria Tarver.
Merriwether Fire district meeting
The Merriwether Fire Department will conduct its annual district meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in the main fire station at 1879 W. Martintown Road.
The meeting will include an annual report and election of commissioners.
All members of the fire district are invited, and dinner will be served.

Heritage Corridor offers grants
The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor offers grant opportunities for worthy projects within the Heritage Corridor.
The letter of intent is due Sept. 3, and the grant must be turned in by Oct. 15. For more information, go to www.sc-heritagecorridor.org.
A.M. Connection features Lauren Virgo
The North Augusta Chamber of Commerce will resume the monthly breakfast, A.M. Connection, on Sept. 23 at the North Augusta Community Center.
Breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m. The September event is sponsored by Comcast.
The speaker is Lauren Virgo, executive director of the new Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta.
Taxes topic of Women in Business luncheon
The North Augusta Chamber of Commerce will hold its quarterly Women in Business luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 7, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The guest speaker is Andrea Usry of Serotta Maddox. She will talk about taxes and tax changes for women and men.

Go back to the 60s at class reunion
"Back to the Sixties Again," a joint class reunion of those who graduated from North Augusta High School in the 60s, will be held Oct. 3.
Anyone from those classes is welcome. The cost is $40 per person ($50 per person after Sept. 5).

Electronic Collection Day in NA
The City of North Augusta will hold the next Electronic Collection Day on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kroger parking lot.
Local residents are encouraged to bring in their old, broken or unused electronic equipment -- anything from computers and computer equipment to electrical cords, CDs, pagers, small appliances and even small kitchen appliances.
The program is designed to keep such equipment out of the landfill and in the recycle pool.

The International Cat Association will hold its Caddyshack Cat Show at Riverview Park Activities Center from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20.
'Driven By the Spirit' biker Sunday
Driven By The Spirit Motorcycle Ministry will hold the fifth annual Biker Sunday on Sept. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Midland Valley First Church of the Nazarene, 3526 Jefferson Davis Highway, Clearwater.
There will be a breakfast snack, church service and a BBQ lunch after the church service. T

Breast Cancer Awareness night will be hosted by Sno-Cap on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the regular Bike Night at the local drive-in.
Fall Festival in Edgefield
The Edgefield County Senior Citizens Council will be holding a Fall Festival on Sept. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from the Edgefield County Senior Center. There will be fun activities such as a Cake Walk, 1K Walk, Bingo, Fashion Show, Health Fair and food.
Crafters have been invited to display their wares by renting a table for $10.

Pet-a-Fair is Oct. 25
The CSRA Humane Society will hold its annual Pet-a-Fair at Julian Smith Casino on Sunday, Oct. 25, beginning at noon.
Pet contests of the cutest, most unusual dog or cat and other type of pet contests will be held as well as a silent auction and vendor tables of food. Contact the shelter if you would like to donate new items for the silent auction.

The Brick Yard Market is continuing at Hammond's Ferry every Friday from around 4 p.m. to dusk at 450 Railroad Avenue. There are vendors, music and a fresh market.
