Two North Augusta men are facing decades in jail after they were found guilty of drug distribution by a federal jury on Friday.
Freddie Lee Curry, 36, a.k.a. "King of da Hood," and Sammy Davis Mims, 44, both of North Augusta, were found guilty of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Curry was also convicted on two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana and crack. Mims was convicted of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
According to evidence presented at the trial and in federal court documents, between October 1997 and July 2008, the pair, along with 13 others indicted in July 2008, distributed more than 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of crack cocaine and 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of cocaine in the Currytown area of North Augusta.
United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said that the pair face sentences of 20 years to life in prison due to the prior felony drug convictions.
Curry has convictions in Aiken for possession with intent to distribute cocaine within the proximity of a school. He was convicted in 2003 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended to four years of probation.
Curry and Mims were nabbed by federal law enforcement agents as part of a large federal sweep in summer 2008. The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Regional Anti-Gang Enforcement Task Force (RAGE) served several search warrants and arrested 17 individuals, building two separate federal drug and firearms cases.
RAGE is made up of Aiken and Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, North Augusta and Aiken Public Safety and ATF agents.
No sentencing date had been set at press time Monday.
