Volunteer at the Arts and Heritage Center
The Arts and Heritage Center, which is located in the new North Augusta Municipal Center, is scheduled to open on July 7.
The board of directors of the Center is in the process of enlisting volunteers who are willing to spend at least three hours a week assisting in the Arts and Heritage Center and Gift Shop
Anyone interested in being a volunteer is asked to send his or her name, address and phone number to P.O. Box 6462, North Augusta, SC 29861.
Area 2 Advisory Council to meet
The Area 2 Advisory Council will meet Thursday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Area 2 Administrative Office on Old Edgefield Road.
The agenda includes approval of the 2009-10 local budgets and of the advisory council meeting schedule for the coming year.

Belvedere Ridge 'meet your neighbor'
The Belvedere Ridge Area Neighborhood Watch will hold a "meet your neighbor at the ball field" event on June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ball field behind Belvedere Elementary School.
There will be a pet-owner look-alike contest, dog wash and dog nail clipping and a rabies clinic from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch or purchase a hot dog from the concession stand.
There will be sign-ups to join the neighborhood watch for those who haven't already done so.
Proceeds from the day's events go to the Neighborhood Watch.
Women in Business June 10
The North Augusta Chamber of Commerce will host the next Women in Business on Wednesday, June 10, at the North Augusta Community Center beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The day's events will include a fashion show by Dillard's of Augusta Mall.
Sponsorships and tabletop sponsorships are available.

Edgefield Women in Business
The Edgefield Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Expo and Luncheon are planned for Friday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria at Strom Thurmond High School.
There will be health screenings, nutritional information and speakers Jackie Enlund and Nancy Goslen from the Diabetes and Teaching Center who will speak on "How to Lose Weight and Keep it Off."
There will be a fashion show during the lunch, which is catered by the Aiken Regional Medical Center staff.

The Girls Scouts of the North Augusta Service Unit will hold their first summer fun traveling troop sessions. Girls do not need to already be registered Girl Scouts; they can join when they register ($10.)
The sessions are open to all girls who have completed K-seventh grade. Bring a sack lunch; snacks will be provided. Girls must be accompanied by an adult.
The cost is $2 per girl. All events will be held at the North Augusta Southern Methodist Church on Martintown Road (unless otherwise noted).

Splash Day ushers in summer
The City of North Augusta will once again host Splash Day on Friday, June 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be free food and refreshments with the "splash" provided by the North Augusta Department of Public Safety. There will also be a slip-n-slide, games ice cream from WBBQ and a visit from the Chick-fil-A cow.
The event will be held at the Riverview Park Activities Center.

County Transportation Committee to meet
The Aiken County Transportation Committee will hold a public meeting on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Aiken County Council building, 736 Richland Ave. West, Aiken.

Summerfield reunion and luncheon June 18
The annual Summerfield Reunion and Luncheon will be held Thursday, June 18, beginning at noon at the River House Restaurant.
All staff, personnel workers and former students of Summerfield School are invited.

Flag Day celebration
The public is invited to a Flag Day Celebration at the Augusta Scottish Rite Center, 2553 Washington Road, Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m. The U.S. Army Signal Corps Ensemble will perform, as well as flag bearers from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Brigadier General Jeffrey Foley, Commanding General, Fort Gordon, will be the guest speaker. Admission is free. Newcomers Club in the making
Efforts are under way to reestablish a local group for newcomers. A "meet-and-greet" is held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Details are at 341-9522.

The Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce now offers caps, T-shirts and bags for $15 and sweatshirts for $25 with the North Augusta logo. Some items come in a variety of colors.
