Two burglaries occurred Feb. 26 on Royalette Avenue, in neighboring houses. One included the theft of $2,940 in items -- computer, TV, stereo and camera equipment. Some stereo equipment had been gathered together, as if also having been prepared for removal. In the other house, the take was $275 in items, including a DVD player, cash, costume jewelry, TV dinners and a blood-pressure monitor. A microwave oven had also been moved, as if having been a target for the burglar(s).
An Augusta man and a North Augusta man were arrested on shoplifting charges Feb. 26, after an attempt to remove $372 in items from a variety store on Knox Avenue. One of the men was caught after a foot chase with a police officer, and the other was apprehended in a traffic stop.
A four-door 1999 Ford Contour valued at $3,000 was stolen Feb. 26 from a convenience store on Georgia Avenue, where the owner had stepped inside for a moment. It was light blue and bore a temporary South Carolina tag.
A burglary occurred Feb. 25 on Dunbarton Drive, with the taking of $1,920 in Sony LCD televisions -- a 32-inch and a 21-inch model.
An incident of grand larceny occurred at a business on US 1 Feb. 20 or 21, with the theft of $1,498 from a en employee's wallet.
The Feb. 19 theft of a green 1999 Honda Accord led to the arrest and jailing of a North Augusta man one day later. It was taken from a business on Georgia Avenue.
A gray 2002 Camaro X-28, valued at $4,0000 and bearing South Carolina tag 8720 CS, was stolen Feb. 19 on Martintown Road.
A North Augusta man was arrested and jailed Feb. 18 on charges including operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to register a vehicle, driving under suspension (first offense), having an open container of beer, driving under the influence (second offense). He had been noticed on Atomic Road, at a traffic light, in a vehicle with non-working tail lights and no visible license plate.
An incident of malicious injury to personal property occurred Feb. 19 on East Martintown Road, with $1,000 in damage having been done to a residence. A variety of items, including pictures, books and curtain rods, took a beating.
Soft-drink machines on East Martintown road sustained $3,000 in cumulative damage Feb. 17 or 18, in an apparent break-in attempt.
