An Augusta woman was arrested and jailed Jan. 1, shortly after midnight, on a charge of driving under the influence, after a wreck at Knox Avenue and Summerhill Drive, resulting in heavy front-end damage, the flattening of both front tires and the mutilation of both front rims. The driver, who failed a sobriety test but could not give a breath sample (due to a mouth injury), apparently believed herself to be in Augusta and said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car and that it was perfectly road-worthy.
A Yamaha Vino scooter valued at $1,220 was stolen Dec. 31 on West Hugh Street. It was described as a black-and-silver model, from 2003.
A North Augusta man was arrested and jailed Dec. 30 on a charge of grand larceny, relating to the theft of copper coils, valued at $7500, taken from air-conditioning units on Swiss Street.
An Augusta man is a suspect in a Dec. 28 case of shoplifting, involving $222 in Aleve, Advil and Tylenol, targeted for unauthorized removal from a variety store on Knox Avenue.
An armed robbery occurred Dec. 26 at a business on East Buena Vista Avenue, resulting in the loss of $2,150 and a pack of Newport cigarettes. One of the two thieves was described as carrying a black handgun with a silver slide and being clad in all black, except for a camouflage ski mask and gloves. The other was described as also clad in all black, including a black bandana over much of his face.
An Edgefield man was arrested and jailed on a charge of driving the influence Dec. 25, after a traffic stop at Georgia and LeCompte avenues. He performed poorly on sobriety tests and would not give a breath sample.
A vehicle break-in occurred between Dec. 11 and 21 on Holiday Drive, with the theft of $269 in camera equipment.
A North Augusta man, after being noticed driving 59 miles an hour in a 40 zone (on Martintown Road), was arrested and jailed Dec. 24 on a charge of driving under the influence. He performed poorly in sobriety tests and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .14 percent.
A North Augusta woman was arrested and jailed on a charge of driving under the influence, after a Dec. 23 wreck at Knox Avenue and Martintown Plaza. She performed poorly in sobriety tests and did not provide an adequate breath sample.
