Jackets show teamwork on and off the field

Aiken County teachers returned to school Aug. 10, and it was exciting to see that Coach Pippin of the North Augusta High School football team had already prepared his team members to work closely with our community and other schools, as well. The seniors of the football team were asked to buy a book bag and fill it with supplies before reporting to practice on Aug. 10. At that time Coach Pippin explained the needs of some of our lower socio-economical students in Area 2. With book bags in hand, 25 high school students reported to Mossy Creek Elementary to deliver their fully packed book bags that were distributed from the Mossy Creek Turtle Express that departed at 2 p.m. that same day.

Because of the generous donations from the North Augusta High School football team, United Way, Grace Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of North Augusta, Dr. Cooper, and Cedar Creek West, over 150 book bags with supplies were distributed in our community. The football team was able to provide Mossy Creek's Turtle Express Committee the extra hands needed to pack supplies into the other back packs that were to be distributed. Coach Pippin is also trying to plan for the seniors, this year, to come back to Mossy Creek throughout the school year and possibly mentor some of our students. Area 2's new assistant superintendent, Peggy Trivelas was also available to see, first hand, the community support and team work that our local schools provide. She was able to see the needs of the community and the excitement of the administration and faculty of Mossy Creek Elementary School.
