A trip to a local hardware establishment, whether to buy or browse, is usually a pleasant experience; not so the last trip. In order to save a little money and time I decided to build my own backyard sprinkler system. All I needed was a threaded adapter with the male end being 1/2" and the female end being 3/4" and I thought that would be easy to find. After some 15 minutes of searching with no results I cornered an associate to help me. He had no clue! His suggestion was to purchase three parts where one would do and he kept telling me I was wrong about what I needed. Where do they find these people? As I have stated before my application has gone to this establishment at least four times without a response, yet they seem to hire nincompoops. In the process of "helping" his supervisor told him to go to lunch when he finished with me giving him another excuse to try to hurry through the encounter. Finally I just told him thanks and walked off circling the aisles going back to the same location and going a different route with my adaptation. His $4 suggestion turned into a 38 cent purchase by doing it my way. The trip made part of me wish I was male. Men don't have to dress to go to the hardware store. Men can wear dirty sweaty T-shirts, shorts, no make-up, a baseball cap to cover their hair or lack thereof. They don't have to wear undergarments under their shirts no matter their physical appearance and the associates take them seriously when they ask for help.
It has been brought to my attention by more than one person that my association with a previous employer may be part of what is holding me back from getting a new job. It could be true given the contention, disagreements and overall attitude exhibited to many customers. It is easy to assign guilt by association; however, people must remember when you are employed by someone you do as they ask. I am good at what I do and I miss it. Planning events, preparing food and making sure everything is seamlessly run made me very happy as, I hope, it did those that trusted me. It is something I would really love to do again.
Scanning the channels Monday last brought me to something called Gossip Girl, a group of very rich high school students in NYC. Did we miss out or am I behind the times? Top designer clothes, no parental supervision to speak of, alcohol flows like water, parties at the drop of a hat, promiscuity being the norm, limousines to and from wherever, the ultimate black AMEX card in everyone's wallet and yet the back-stabbing continues. No one seems happy or satisfied, everyone connives behind friends' backs and these are just teenagers. Every misdeed is caught and published on a website and sent to everyone's very expensive cell. Is this proof even the very wealthy are not happy? Who knows and does anyone really care? Until next week. XOXO.
