Seems like hiring a lobbying firm was a no-sell to Barnwell and Columbia counties -- A wise decision by wise people. An interesting comment by Columbia County Commission Chairman Ron Cross that Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Broun has been doing a good job for Columbia County on the federal level. That is what Wrinkles suggested last week ... Where is Aiken County's local representative and why isn't he doing his job like Rep. Paul Broun? One councilperson suggested that a lobbyist could help the county by getting it on certain agendas for funding requests ... why can't our political representatives do the same thing for the salary they are now receiving? It is time to get on with constructive ideas that can be done by our elected officials and not always pay an outsider to do their jobs. Congratulations to the level heads that do not want to enter the spend-trend game!
Congratulations go out also to two great couples ... Bob and Margaret Lemon celebrated their 25th anniversary and Dr. John and Lal Younginer celebrated their 50th anniversary this month.
A Wrinkles "tip of the hat" to Tommy's Lawn Care of North Augusta. These guys have a large tarp and instead of blowing lawn debris into the street to be blown into the sewer by passing motorists, put the debris on the tarp, pull it to their truck and load it up to be taken away. Way to go, guys!
Butterflies are one of my favorite things ... I have lots of pins and pictures of these beautiful creatures and visit every butterfly garden I hear about. This love made me love this story. A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared, and he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no farther. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened!! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we would never fly.
