Disputes definition of 'Christianity'

In Ms. Gibson's column of 2/25/10, she asks the question, "What is a Christian?" She goes on to answer her own question by saying, "Showing qualities such as kindness, helpfulness, concern for others and tolerance, according to the church." That answer is not exactly correct. A Christian is someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior and strives to follow the commands of Christ as best they can. Jesus did not preach tolerance for what was wrong.

I found an interesting quote by Chuck Colson: "True tolerance is not a total lack of judgment. It's knowing what should be tolerated and refusing to tolerate that which shouldn't." I think this "tolerance" movement and political correctness have brought our country to a dangerous precipice, and if we fall off, our civilized society will not be able to climb back up.

This was in Cal Thomas's column on Feb. 24: "The problem in our culture is that standards have been exchanged for feelings and a nonjudgmental attitude. All choices are to be treated as equally valid so long as the person making the choice 'feels good' about making it. 'It can't be wrong, if it feels so right,' goes the song, when in fact it very often can be very wrong if it 'feels right.'"

Ms. Gibson finished her column by wondering what the "uproar" over the gay pride parade was all about, and saying everyone should just "Give it a rest." Well, it's a free country, and people have a right to legally and peacefully parade, but other people who don't agree with what the parade is about have a right to voice their objections. Christians are just not going to be silent all the time.

This was also in that same article by Cal Thomas: "What used to be called sin and shamefulness is now on parade."
