Knox Cup polo tourney continues
MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine made a strong case for the 302 Polo USPA 16-goal Northrup Knox Cup finals presented by the Aiken Standard with an 11-9 victory over Barrington Wednesday at Meadow Hill.
A strong first chukker by MavOffice.Com's Tiger Kneece helped to stake his team to an early 3-0 lead before Shane Rice scored for Barrington with 42 seconds left in the period.
Kneece scored consecutive goals at the start of the second chukker, giving his team a comfortable 4-goal cushion, as MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine took a 7-3 into the half.
Hugh Worsham gave MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine a 5-goal lead early in the second half, before Barb Uskup (the first of her two goals) and Tommy Biddle Jr. reduced the margin to two goals.
But two goals was as close as Barrington came as MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine always seemed to answer Barrington with another goal. Late goals by Kneece and a pair from Julian Daniels solidified the victory for MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine, who will play Upatoi Green Friday at 4 p.m. in a game that should decide who will play in Sunday's finals.
"In these tournaments where there are four teams and everybody plays everybody, you can sit down and try to do all the advanced math, but the easiest thing is to try an win as many games as possible," said Tom Uskup, MavOffice.com/Foxdale Equine. "I think we have a good chance to go to the finals. We have a good group, and we've been playing well."
