It will be a day of high-flying action Saturday at the 2008 Watermelon Nitro Blast.

Imagine radio-controlled nitro race cars competing on an 675 foot off road track and you have what Deven Charnock, the event's organizer, calls, "a whole lot of fun."

The race will be held at Outlaw RC Raceway, 373 Boyd Pond Road, at 10 a.m. There will be a driver's meeting at 9 a.m., and the first qualifier race will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Charnock said the races will continue all day. He expects the event to conclude around midnight.

The track will be available Friday for an all-day pre-race, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for racers, said Charnock. An avid racer, Charnock, said radio controlled racing is growing it its popularity.

"It's a lot more serious than a lot of people think," he said. Charnock said he began seriously racing radio-controlled cars about two years ago after his kids acquired an interest in the hobby. He co-owns Outlaw RC Raceway with his wife, Jennifer Charnock.

Saturday's races are free and open to the public. The racing classes for the event include 1/8 buggy, 1/8 truggy, monster truck, 1/10 gas truck and 1/10 electric 19T cars.

For those who would like to enter the race, the pre-registration fee is $25. Entry fee at the track on the day of the race is $30. The race will be directed by Paul Dixon. Food will be offered at a concession stand during the races and several vendors will also be present at the event, according to Charnock.

Membership to the Outlaw RC Race Club is $25. The fee includes reduced race entry fees and special membership events.

Comment Title: It really is A WHOLE LOTTA FUN!
I am a member at the track, and if you want to see some fast Radio Controlled cars/trucks come out and join us. Some of these things run upwards of 40+ MPH, and catch huge air on the jumps. It will be a full day of family fun and fast racing.
