Aiken's horses are beautiful animals

I beg to disagree with those who are less than impressed with the horses in Aiken. Every morning I get to pass several training areas on my way to work and revel in the beauty of these animals. Just seeing them each day inspires me to enjoy my day. I may not be a native Aikenite, but having lived here for 35 years, I have enjoyed the beauty of these horses.

Question was good; answers didn't fit

The Aiken Standard asked a good poll question about horse racing, but none of the answers provided were appropriate. A lot of us would respond "several changes are needed to make the sport safer for the horses."

Wright shouldn't have more to say

Never in a million years did I think a church I respect would have Obama's pastor down here to speak to them during revival. I can't believe he would have anything to say after all he's said that would have anything to do with how we live here in Aiken.

No grace period for child support

Why is a grace period allowed for people who have to pay child support? When a grace period is allowed, the support doesn't get to you on time.

Elderly people are precious treasures

I would like to thank Mr. Todd Etheridge for the statement about the elderly. I'm glad some people think they are treasures.

No church should welcome Wright

I can't believe that anyone who lives in Aiken would consider this racist and bigot come to Aiken, a God-fearing town. I have listened to him on the TV and am surprised that a man who has a church in this town would allow this man to set foot in this church and that the town would let him come.

Berrie Road may undergo widening

Get ready, Berrie Road friends. Under consideration now is the widening of Berrie to five lanes with a center turn lane. The proposal takes it all the way to the end with a turnaround to accommodate the tourist traffic and traffic from special events at Hopelands Gardens.

Pulpit Racism Leads Blacks To Destruction :  5/14/2008

visit www.bondinfo.org Melissa, and whomever else thinks it is ok to openly curse America from the pulpit while taking the Lord's name in vain should try educating themselves a bit into the Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson and others like him. Seems we have too many people willing to stew in the past and not move forward with their talents and take what is afforded to them today by thier elders sacrifices and by God's endownment. Being a woman over 50, I can tell you that I don't take likely the enroads my grandmothers and mother made on my behalf to work and earn more than they ever hoped for in their lifetime. It wasn't until August 26, 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution became law, and women could vote in the fall elections, including in the Presidential election. Women and children were considered property of their husbands and were treated as such by law. But I do not stand and spew hatred at all men because of what my grandmothers and mother endured. Continuing that type of thinking only holds women back and disgraces the efforts they made for me. Remember, you make your own way in this world by preparing yourself through education and living right. Taking your lumps and be slow to play the race or gender cards also put you above the fray. Remember, you prepare your children by not spewing hatred at any race, and by teaching them respect for others.

Widening of Berrie Rd. :  5/13/2008

Berrie Rd. is not being considered for widening. This is a rumour not based in any fact. Instead of spreading silly rumours why doesn't the reader spend their time on things that really matter?
