Three Runs to benefit orphaned mare foals 3/28/2010 11:33 PM By BEN BAUGH Staff writer
Horsemen can take part in a competitive event that will raise money for a good cause.
Why Worry Hounds and Aiken Hounds have organized the Three Runs at Three Runs Plantation Hunter Pace to benefit Dream Equine Therapy's 2010 Orphan Nurse Mare Foals. The hunter pace will start at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Dream Equine Therapy Center is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in York.
The hunter pace course will be throughout the trail system located at Three Runs Plantation.
"There are farms taking babies (nurse mare foals) away from their mothers hours after they're born who wouldn't be able to survive without the assistance of the rescue (Dream Equine Therapy Center)," said Gina Greer, who is organizing the silent auction, a drawing and the day's other activities, which include an Easter egg hunt, pony rides, fun and games for children and a barbecue and buffet lunch to benefit Dream Equine Therapy. "There have been four nurse mare foals who have been adopted locally."
Pace Kneece of Aiken County Farm Supply will be donating the use of a round pen to showcase the nurse mare foals during the hunter pace, said Greer. Foals will be available for adoption at the event.
"We're helping the foals during this foaling season that are hitting the ground," said Greer.
Hunter pace divisions include coyote, red fox and grey fox. Riders must wear helmets, and a negative Coggins is required.
The cost for preregistering to participate in the event is $25; registration the day of the event is $35.
