Train-car collision sends 2 to hospital
FLORENCE -- Authorities say a 23-year-old woman is in critical condition after the car she was riding in collided with an Amtrak train in Chesterfield County.
McBee Police Chief Davey Hendrix told WBTW-TV the woman was ejected from the back seat during the crash early Christmas Day on state Highway 151 in McBee.
Hendrix said a second passenger, a 41-year-old woman, was treated and released from a Hartsville hospital. The driver was uninjured. No charges have been filed.
The chief says the man drove around the crossing's guard arms and the train hit the back of the car.
An Amtrak spokesman told the Morning News of Florence the train was carrying 259 passengers en route to New York. Cliff Cole says the train passengers were uninjured. The train was delayed more than an hour.
