Elderly N.C. man dies in car crash on I-26 in S.C.

SPARTANBURG -- Authorities say a 92-year-old North Carolina man died in a crash on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County.

Coroner's investigator Ken Toney says George Frank Herring Jr. of Weaverville, N.C., was ejected from his son's vehicle on Tuesday night.

Toney says the driver, 62-year-old George Frank Herring III, was towing another vehicle from Weaverville and lost control of his car. His father was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at a hospital of multiple body trauma.

The son was wearing a seat belt and was treated for minor injuries.

A state trooper says no tickets were issued in the crash.
