Riverfront Raiders are the champs
The Riverfront Raiders returned home Sunday from Dentsville as champions of the 18U Worth Home Run Challenge Baseball Tournament.
En route to the championship, the 16-year-old Raiders defeated other high school teams from Saluda and Columbia. The North Augusta-based team lost only once to a team from Florence called the SwampRats, 5-4. Down 2-0 to the undefeated SwampRat team in the top of the fifth inning, the Raiders rallied for six runs and held on to win, 6-3, in the second game against the team.
"Rock solid pitching, excellent defense and clutch two-out hitting were the keys to our success," said Coach Tim Thornton.
