N.A. Classic golf tourney to be soon

The seventh annual North Augusta Classic golf tournament is set for Nov. 2 with The River Club continuing its traditional role as host site. Plans are for a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

In keeping with tradition, proceeds will benefit a variety of local community groups. This year's event has Windsor Jewelers and University Hospital as its top-level sponsors.

The tournament, through its previous six years, has brought in more than $150,000 for local charities, ranging from American Legion Post 71 to the golf team at North Augusta High School.

"We still have some team and hole sponsorships available," said Kathy Gilliland, executive director of North Augusta 2000, which organizes the tournament along with the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce and North Augusta's municipal government.

Top-performing teams in the 2008 tournament included Hi Tech Power Systems, Augusta Coca-Cola, TTX Hamburg and First Citizens Bank and Trust. Details are available at 279-2323 and 510-0011.
