Meet the Jackets

The second annual "Meet the Jackets Night" was a little on the wet side, but North Augusta High School's fall sports program still got a high-spirited introduction Friday evening at the stadium -- "a good night for everybody," in the words of Dan Pippin, the school's athletic director and head football coach.

Rick Meyer, president of the North Augusta Yellow Jacket Booster Club, gave the gathering a similar review. He noted that the idea came from Pippin and Chuck Deen, director of the school's music program, as a way to showcase the various fall teams, the cheerleaders and the Jacket Regiment. Fall sports at the high school include football (varsity, junior-varsity and B team), volleyball (varsity and JV), cross-country, swimming and girls' tennis. Each participant, from top veterans to youngest newcomers, got a moment in the spotlight.

"We had a great crowd on hand," Meyer said. "We got a little bit of rain -- just enough to cool everybody off. We're just excited now to get cranked up for Friday night versus Midland Valley."
