Camellias on display this weekend

The fifth annual North Augusta Camellia Show is set for this Saturday, March 6, at Riverview Park Activities Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sponsored by the Aiken Camellia Society, the show will actually begin behind the scenes at 7:30 a.m. when the public is invited to bring blooms to be entered in the competition.

Entry will be closed at 10 a.m. Members of the Society will be on hand to identify and enter the blooms.

At 11 a.m. judges, under the direction of Lee Poe and other accredited camellia judges, will participate in a hands-on evaluation of the blossoms, and the public may participate.

At 1:30 p.m. Chip Buchanan and Jim Stutts will provide a presentation on propagation of camellias, followed by a presentation on historic camellias of Edgefield by Henrietta Humphries.

During the show hours, there will be a general information desk where visitors can learn more about camellia propagation and for identification of blossoms.

Awards and certificates will be given to winners in a variety of classes and for Best in Show.
