Area 2 enrollment up by 61 on day 6

The number of students enrolled in Area 2 has, as expected, risen since the first day of school last week.

The school district takes a count on the first, third, sixth and finally 11th day of school. By the third day of school only Belvedere Elementary School showed an increase over last year.

On the sixth day Belvedere Elementary School had enrolled 629 students, up from 593 on the same day last year. Hammond Hill Elementary School was holding steady at 736, down from last year's sixth day total of 748. Mossy Creek's numbers show an increase of 75 students with 740 on the sixth day compared to 665 the same time in 2009. North Augusta Elementary School's numbers were slightly lower with 710 compared to 717 last year. North Augusta Middle was at 677 over 642 in 2009, while Paul Knox Middle was showing a decrease with 571 students versus 583 last year at the same time. And North Augusta High School's sixth day enrollment was 1,605, down from 1,628.

The 11th day numbers are the critical ones because that enrollment determines whether teachers are added or taken away from individual schools.

Thus far, the Area 2 total enrollment is higher than last year by 61 with a sixth day head count of 5,668 compared to 5,607 last year.

At the district level, the sixth day count was 24,549. The enrollment at this point is 60 students fewer than last year; however, the numbers have increased 1,088 over the number of students enrolled on the first day of school.
