Chaplain's corner: Respecting veterans
At 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918, the firing ceased in Europe, bringing World War I to a close. Americans remember this armistice by observing a moment of silence at 11 a.m. each Nov. 11. Following World War II and the Korean War, in 1954 Congress changed the designation from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in order to honor all veterans. We proudly unite with those who offer respect and esteem to all veterans for safeguarding our freedom -- something well worth preserving! "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." (Matthew 22:21).
