URS Corp. changes name
A familiar name and major employer in the Aiken area is shifting away from one name and consolidating under a single banner.
The parent company of Savannah River Site's liquid waste contractor and former management and operations contractor is getting rid of the Washington Division and EG&G company names and simply branding its URS Corp.
The change is an internal shift to focus on one brand name and will not mean any changes in the company's operations or contracts.
Martin M. Koffel, chairman and chief executive officer, said in a press release, "With URS divisions marketing under a single, powerful brand, all of our clients will have a clearer understanding of the full range of services URS can bring to bear on their most critical and complex projects."
The company had been split under the three names with each focused in specific markets; this will remain for financial reporting purposes, the company said Tuesday.
The URS division focused on infrastructure and environment; federal services came under the EG&G Division; and the energy and construction side was known as the Washington Division.
URS is the majority partner in Savannah River Remediation, the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, and Washington Safety Management Solutions, their safety watchdog, but neither name will be affected.
