Equine sport, landscape art on display at Aiken Hall of Fame
An opening reception was held for artist Dorothy Haskell Chhuy Thursday evening at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum and was sponsored by Meybohm Realtors David Stinson and Sharer Dale.
An exhibit featuring 20 pieces from the artist will be on display through Dec. 31.
The artist's work was featured on the cover of the Sept. 25 edition of The Chronicle of the Horse. The exhibit featured oils and watercolors of hunt and racing scenes.
This is the sixth time Chhuy has had her work on exhibit at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum.
"Ms. Chhuy, as usual, has a fantastic show, a great following, is a joy to deal with, and we're always glad to have her back in Aiken," said Lisa Hall, City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum program supervisor.
Chhuy first had her work exhibited at the Hall of Fame in 1991.
A fortuitous and propitious set of circumstances led Chhuy to Aiken.
The artist was traveling to Atlanta with her husband to meet some of his business associates in 1990.
The couple stopped in the middle of an ice storm and made the effort to learn more about the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame.
"My first show at the Hall of Fame was in 1991, and it was a miracle," said Chhuy. "Peter and Mona Gray have been supporters since the beginning."
