ACSO spokesperson dies in crash

Lt. Michael J. Frank of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office was killed in an automobile accident on Saturday afternoon.

Frank, 48, died in a one-car accident on Interstate 20 in Greene County, Ga. The accident occurred while Frank was traveling eastbound near mile marker 132. Frank was off duty at the time of the accident.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident and was unavailable for comment at press time.

Sheriff Michael Hunt was notified by a Greene County official at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"Michael was a true professional, and he did his job taking care of the press and the sheriff's office and did that very well," said Hunt. "Michael loved his family and kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We've lost an important person in our family here at the sheriff's office."

Frank was a 13-year veteran of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. He served as the agency's public information officer, operating as a liaison between the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the community by providing information about agency activities.

Prior to joining the sheriff's office, Frank was a reporter for WJBF television in Augusta.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
