802nd goes to Afghanistan

The war in Afghanistan, never far from our thoughts, is about to get even closer.

A number of Aiken-based Army reservists are being deployed to Afghanistan along with the 802nd Ordnance Company next month, part of a yearlong stint in the heart of the conflict area.

The reservists will be handling ammunition in Afghanistan upon arrival overseas, and according to members of the Company will be in the thick of the action.

We are proud of the dedication to duty of those who will be deployed. Their patriotism is evidence by the uniform they wear and their determination to see their mission through to completion. They are leaving family and friends as well as civilian jobs behind as they go about their job of preserving liberty - wherever and whenever that task takes them.

We are humbled by the service of those in the 802nd as well as those other brave Americans who they will join in Afghanistan. The support by those of us here at home must be unwavering. These are America's finest.
