Art show to feature variety of art styles
The works of local figurative artists will be back on display for the second time this year for an Exposition D' Art Figuratif.
The event will feature several types of figurative art, or artwork created from real objects. Featured styles of artwork will include graphite, charcoal, pastel, acrylics, oils, mixed mediums, ink and sculpture.
Some of the pieces also includes nude artwork. All art displayed during the show will be for sale.
The show opens on Nov. 2 and will continue through Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be held in the upper and lower galleries at the Etherredge Center at USC Aiken, 471 University Parkway.
On Nov. 12, a symposium featuring speakers Dr. John Elliot and Matthew Lewis will be held from 6 to 6:45 p.m.
In his talk, Elliott will analyze the representation of the human figure in art history from antiquity to contemporary art. Elliott's presentation will also include the current state of figural art among connoisseurs and collectors.
Lewis plans to make a presentation on 3-D works, including the inception of the idea in clay projects to when the final art work emerges in various materials and finishes.
An artists reception will follow the symposium from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. The reception is free to the public. Artists will be present to discuss their work and to answer questions. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Carolyn Miller, an artist being featured in the show, said the event is excellent for those who want to acquire a good foundation in art history, presentation and creation.
Other artists featured in the exhibition include: Mina Dobbertean, Hannah Elliott, Deborah Ferguson, Seth Logan Fields, Jeff Ford, Kimberly Guillermo, Marilyn Hartley, Matthew Lewis, Elizabeth Moretz-Britt, Ruth Pearl, Jane Popiel, Deborah A. Sandberg and Michelle Wynn.
