EDITOR'S NOTE: Give some reality to family of hoax

It didn't sound right from the outset. A boy climbing into a homemade balloon and sailing off into the skies? When the child was found at home after the balloon landed and it was reported the family had been on a reality TV show, the suspicions grew.

Now the sheriff in Colorado who was called in the case is pursuing charges against the parents.

Reality TV has never been something I have been impressed with. Whether it is people on a faraway island, loudmouths in a house trying to live together, people eating bugs or families exchanging parents, those shows are not my cup of TV.

It is just preposterous that a family might come up with a scheme that puts others at risk (two helicopters were dispatched and a major airport changed some planes to a different runway) for the sake of publicity and the hope of getting a reality show of their own.

If that turns out to be the case, those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest of the Colorado and federal law. Now that is reality.
