Man thrown from vehicle in accident

A 19-year-old Monetta man was thrown from his vehicle after a crash on Trojan Road near U.S. 1 about 3 p.m. Monday but escaped with non-life- threatening injuries, officials said.

Donald Jackson Jr., of Monetta, was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer north on Trojan Road when a 1995 Dodge pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Steven Price of Batesburg crossed into his lane.

Price was charged with driving left of center.

Police investigate possible abuse

Aiken police are investigating a case of possible elder abuse, according to reports.

A bank employee called officials with concerns about a local man withdrawing a large sum of money from the bank.

The man told officials he was fearful of his son but did not want to prosecute.

The man added that he withdrew the money because he was fearful of the current bank crisis.

The incident is under investigation, according to officials.

Aiken highlighted in 'Times' paper

A New York Times article featuring Aiken as a retirement haven is spreading like wildfire through Aiken's cyberspace.

The article focuses on the influx of northern horse lovers buying into Aiken's Winter Colony.

The article highlights Aiken's appealing real estate market and its strong equine ties. However, a few items in the article are outdated, including a reference to the now-closed CuiZine and a reference to the bars and restaurants allowing smoking. The City of Aiken banned smoking in restaurants and bars in July.

Film Series to show 'Persepolis'

"Persepolis" will be shown as part of the Aiken Center for the Arts REEL Art Film Series on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 per film for adults and $5 for students. A series ticket to all six films is $40. For more information, call 641-9094.

McFadden will give presentation

Maryann McFadden will be giving a presentation from 2 to 3 p.m. and signing her new novel, "The Richest Season," immediately following from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Aiken Center for the Arts.
