USCA and Augusta Astronomy Club will observe the moon
In conjunction with the Astronomy Club of Augusta, the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at USC Aiken will hold an event Saturday, Sept. 18 to recognize "International Observe the Moon Night."
People throughout the world will be viewing the moon that night. Aiken area residents are invited to attend the RPSEC event, using the Bechtel Telescope in the observatory from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The center's DuPont Planetarium also will offer the shows "Larry Cat in Space" at 7 p.m. and "To the Moon and Beyond" at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The Astronomy Club of Augusta will hold its first meeting of the year at the RPSEC on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. All visitors are invited to attend the meeting, after which ACA members will take to the lawn to observe the moon.
Dr. Gary J. Senn, the Ruth Patrick director, said the moon will be between its first quarter and full stages. Better viewing is possible, he said, when the moon is in its first quarter stage, meaning there should be good viewing for the event, weather permitting.
