CROSS COUNTRY
Aiken High School's varsity boys and girls cross country teams swept a meet against North Augusta Wednesday. The Aiken boys won 39-73, while the girls prevailed 8-16. The top three finishers in the boys race were Aiken's Andrew Shurburne (18:42), Sam McGill and North Augusta's Nic O'Brien (19:10). In the girls event, Aiken's Nikki DeMass was the first-place finisher in 23:08.
It was the first race of the year for both school's and Aiken will run again Wednesday against Midland Valley on USC Aiken's Pacer Path.

South Aiken High School's varsity girls volleyball team won a back-and-forth match against Augusta Prep Wednesday in five games. The Thoroughbreds prevailed 26-28, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12. South Aiken's record improves to 1-1 on the young season and the T-Breds will return to action today at Silver Bluff.
South Aiken's junior varsity team also went the distance for a victory that improves its record to 2-0. The T-Breds won 25-18, 21-25, 25-17.

The South Aiken Baptist Lady Crusaders traveled to North Augusta to visit Victory Baptist. The Crusaders were led in scoring by Anna Holt with six service points and three assists. Contributing were Jessie Sandifer with two service aces, four attack kills and 14 assists; Sydney Arsenault with two service aces and five assists; and Casey Smith with a service ace, two attack kills and two assists. Laura Cox and Lillian Kelly had four assists each. Victory Baptist won the game 3-0. The next game is Tuesday at Aiken Prep at 5 p.m.
TENNIS
On Tuesday at Augusta Prep, the middle school boys from St. Mary's won first and second singles, lost first and second doubles. Max Serkiz and Jack Serkiz of St. Mary's both won their singles matches by the count of 8-2. The first doubles team of John Maldonado and Noah Patheja lost 8-0, while the second doubles team of Jared DeMass and Vicent Ylagen lost 8-2.
The St. Mary's girls lost both singles matches and first doubles but the second doubles team prevailed. Elizabeth Grant and Madeline Grant both lost their singles matches by the score of 8-2. The first doubles team of Lauren Davis and Angela Kranjc lost 8-3, while the second doubles team of Sarah Supan and Laura Valdes won 8-4.

On Monday at Forrest Hills Golf Club Episcopal Day School of Augusta won a middle school golf match that included St. Mary's of Augusta and St. Mary's of Aiken. St. Mary's of Aiken was led by Payton Carter (49), Hannah Griffith (52), Alexa Luszcz (54), Bradley Brodie (54), Adam Rabin (54), Andrew Nelson (54) and Michael Anaclerio (54).
COLLEGE GOLF
The USC Aiken golf team will open its 2010-11 campaign by playing host to the Kiawah Island Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The seventh annual, two-day Kiawah Island Invitational will be contested at the 6,875 yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course. Designed by Gary Player, the course was rated at "4.5 stars" by Golf Digest.
USCA has won the event three times before (2004, 2005 and 2008). Georgia College & State finished as team champions of the 2009 Kiawah Island Invitational.
The 2010 Kiawah Island Invitational will feature 21 teams in total with eight Peach Belt Conference schools involved.
