Police seek 'aggressive' robbers

Deputies said the gunmen who robbed a bank in Beech Island on Monday became unusually aggressive during the armed robbery, even stealing from one of the customers during the holdup.

The First Citizens Bank at 2020 Atomic Road was robbed around 10:45 a.m., said Capt. Troy Elwell, a sheriff's office spokesperson.

The men were both armed with small handguns, masked and were wearing gloves, he said.

They demanded and received money from a teller, even snatching items from a customer, Elwell said.

"They were aggressive," he added.

The men left the bank and likely got into a vehicle, but no information on the make and model were reported.

The Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team searched the area, and investigators released a number of surveillance images from the bank.

The suspects are both described as black males.

The first gunman is said to be about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

The second gunman is said to be about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Aiken County Sheriff's Office at (800) 922-9709.

Individuals also should call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at (888) 559-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward of between $50 and $1,000.
