Locals find success at HJGT event
Last weekend, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour visited Bartram Trail Golf Club in Evans, Ga., for the Bartram Trail Jr. Classic, and Aiken native Jake Carter took home the Boys' 10-12 division title with rounds of 77 and 73. Carter began the day in a tie for the lead but his three birdies propelled him to a final round of 1-over-par and a tournament total of 150. Walker Bottomley of Evans came in second place with rounds of 77-79.
The winner in the Girls' 15-19 division also came from within Aiken County's borders. Mati Gibbs of Beech Island took home the title with rounds of 87 and 85. Gibbs finished with a two-day total of 172 to top Caitlyn Cook of Bluffton, who took home second place with a tournament total of 180. Gibbs birdied the 35th hole to help lock up the tournament title.
In the Boys' 16-19 division, Taylor Gove of Evans finished with a 7-under-par 137 tournament total to take home the boys overall title.
Evan Usry of Evans won the Boys' 13-15 division after being in a dogfight all day. Usry and his playing partners all shot even-par 72 on Saturday and battled all day long. Usry fired a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday, though, to record a two-day total of 140 and capture the division title.
