Karolyi on a tear
GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- There seems to be no stopping Angel Karolyi and McClain Ward's Galant as they continue to enjoy success at the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows at the Kentucky Horse Park. The 22-year-old horseman piloted the 19-year-old gelding to another victory in the 1.40 meter $5,000 class Wednesday.
"He did really well," said Karolyi. "It was a nice course and very technical. It's a big ring, which is good for him. It's very much in his favor."
Madrid is another one of Hollow Creek Farm's horses that has had a strong summer, finishing consistently in the top five at the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows, said Karolyi.
"He did the 1.35 and 1.30 meter classes the last day of last week, and this week he's going to do the 1.35 meter classes," said Karolyi. "He's a bit young, and he's still learning. By the end of last week he was jumping fantastic."
Abigail Walker's James T. Kirk should be among the entries for Sunday's Grand Prix class, said Karolyi. Galant continues to be a model of consistency.
"The 1.40 meter class is really Galant's class," said Karolyi. "Galant is really holding his own."
Karolyi will head to Traders Point in Indiana, and than return to the Horse Park for two additional weeks of shows. The Kentucky Horse Park will be the site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
"It's very exciting that the World Equestrian Games are getting closer," said Karolyi. "It's nice to have the opportunity to ride in the stadium. It's beautiful. It's a very nice size. They're doing a great job in preparation for the World Equestrian Games. I'll have James. T. Kirk, Ringo Rama, Ladino and possibly Madrid for the last two weeks of the shows."
