Building for computer banks under construction behind Rutland SRP
Construction is under way on a building that will house SRP Federal Credit Union's computer bank.
Crews are grading land behind the bank branch on Rutland Drive, and President Ed Templeton believes work will be complete sometime between November and December.
The concrete building will hold computers, routers and phone systems, essentially every bit of technology that a bank requires to do business. The hot site, a backup site where operations can easily relocate following a major disruption, will take over in case something happens to SRP's primary computers, routers and phone systems.
"If anything happens, this center will take over," Templeton said. "I understand the switch can take about an hour."
The bank has always had a hot site located in Barnwell, but Templeton said it is "bare bones."
"It won't compare to the magnitude of this one," he added.
And security will be top-notch.
The electronics bank will be encased in a concrete vault that is encased in a concrete vault. It will also be outfitted with a high quality intrusion system that can be triggered by changes in the surrounding environment like temperature.
"This is something we need to do to take care of the people that do business with us," Templeton said. "It really does take us to a whole new level to protect people's data."
The electronics bank will be unmanned a majority of the time, but the building will be big enough that space can be rented to other banking institutions.
