Citizens Park now holding registration for fall sports
Citizens Park is now holding registration for its fall soccer, flag football and girls' volleyball offerings. Registration for the 2009 Fall Soccer League, slated for youth ages 5-18 before Sept. 1, will last from July 6-21 at Citizens Park II. The cost to register is $40. Registration for the 2009 Flag Football league, slated for youth ages 5-12 before Sept. 1, will last from July 6-21 at Citizens Park II. The cost to register is $50. Registration for the 2009 Girls Volleyball league, slated for girls in the fifth through eighth grades before Sept. 1, will last from July 6-21 at Citizens Park II. The cost to register is $40. USCA to hold all-sports
camp this week, late July
USC Aiken will hold an all-sports camp today through Friday and July 20-24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Campers will experience a number of different sports, including basketball, soccer, golf, tennis and a variety of other activities that include swimming, dodgeball, relays and much more during five action-packed days of camp. Campers will separate by age groups but have the option of joining groups with their friends. USCA softball coach Jerry Snyder will direct the camp, designed for everyone with an emphasis placed on fun and safety. The camp, slated for boys and girls ages 5-15, will commence at the USC Aiken Student Activities Center, B&E Gym, natatorium, tennis courts and J.H. Satcher Field. The cost is $150, which includes instruction and supervision, lunch, T-shirt, secondary insurance coverage and a surprise camp gift. For additional information, call (803) 641-3486.
USCA's Jerry Snyder to host softball camp in mid-July
USC Aiken softball coach Jerry Snyder will host a softball camp July 13-17 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday (no lunch). Campers will learn the basic fundamentals of fastpitch softball; throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, bunting, base running and game strategy. The camp will use pitching machines to ensure safety and minimize the fear of the ball, while allowing maximum repetitions of all hitting drills. Campers can enjoy swimming amenities each day due to the heat. Campers will be able to enjoy lunch Monday through Thursday and camper will receive a T-shirt, as well as a camp certificate. The camp, designated for youth ages 9-16, will be held at J.H. Satcher Field. The cost is $150. Early drop-off and late pick-up times will be at 8 a.m. for drop-offs and 5 p.m. for pick-ups Monday-Thursday (1 p.m. on Friday). USCA's Mike Brandt to host basketball camps Monday
USC Aiken women's basketball coach Mike Brandt will hold a three-day camp June 29-July 1 for boys and girls. Additionally, Brandt will hold an ELITE basketball camp that will run simultaneously with the co-ed camp. A check-in will commence on June 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. and an optional overnight camp will be available for girls in the eighth to 12th grades. Brandt, who has more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, and assistant coach Cindy Hilbrich will conduct the clinics. Members of the Lady Pacer basketball team, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament during the 2008-2009 season, will also assist. SAHS to hold basketball camp today through Friday
South Aiken High School will be holding a basketball camp today through Friday. All kids entering the first through ninth grade are welcome to attend. The camp's cost is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Aiken's Hook A Kid On Golf clinics continue today
Hook A Kid On Golf clinics will continue today for kids with golf experience. The Green Level Clinic will last through Friday and includes today's field trip to Cedar Creek at 2 p.m., a Thursday field trip to the First Tee of Augusta and a date Friday at Woodside Plantation's Par 3 course.
Aiken County Bar to hold charity golf event
The Aiken County Bar will hold its second annual charity golf tournament Monday, July 6 at Houndslake Country Club. Registration for the event will commence at 8 a.m., which will follow with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost for the even is $75 per player or $300 per four-player team. Hole sponsorships will cost $150. The maximum number of teams in the event is 32 and the tournament will enjoy a captain's choice format. Tournament costs inclub prizes, beverages and lunch.
