Arrest made in robbery
A 52-year-old Trenton man accused of stealing cash and cigarettes during a North Augusta armed robbery last April has been jailed, officials said.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office, in coordination with the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, arrested Rickey Brunson, of 68 Se Diggs Road in Trenton, at his home Wednesday evening, said Sgt. Dave Myers, Aiken County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
Brunson is charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Through witness accounts and the store's surveillance recordings, deputies said they were able to identify Brunson as the gunman, who reportedly held a handgun at the victim's head during the holdup at the Greg's Gas Plus, 186 Edgefield Road.
Witnesses said the gunman walked into the store around 1 a.m. on April 15, approached the counter and then pulled a stocking over his face.
He told the clerk to give him the money, and she opened the register drawer. He also took packages of cigarettes, officials said.
He was holding a black handgun, the victim told investigators.
Witnesses said they thought the man left in a white truck.
Brunson is being held in the Aiken County detention center.
