FBI: Wife hired man to kill her husband
A 42-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday at her Salley home on allegations she hired a man to burn her estranged husband's home to the ground while he and his son were asleep inside, officials said.
Judy Dickson, 42, of 118 Hemrick St. in Salley, is charged with murder for hire.
Salley Public Safety Chief J.D. Bledsoe said federal agents contacted him late last week about the allegations and her whereabouts.
He said Dickson had been living in the area for a few months.
On Tuesday, Bledsoe, a Wagener officer and a federal agent went to the Hemrick Street home and took her into custody on the federal warrant that alleges she paid a man $10,000 to burn down a house in Shallotte, N.C., while her husband Raymon Dickson and his son, Ryan Dickson, were asleep inside.
According to the authorities, the Salley woman wanted to collect her husband's life insurance, which she said would be doubled if his death looked like an accident.
Federal prosecutors said the man hired for the murder agreed to burn the home down but went to the authorities instead.
Judy Dickson has not posted her $250,000 bond.
