Summer camps offered

There are still some spots available in this summer's Coca-Cola Kids Camps.

The Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, which holds the camps, reports that spots are open for the June 15-19 camp at Roy Warner Park in Wagener and the July 13-17 park at the Aiken State Natural Area in Windsor.

This year's theme is "Gone Green," and kids will learn about recycling, sustainability and how to be better stewards of the environment.

"It looks really great," said Emory Langston, department interim director. "We have almost 200 kids so far."

Children must be preregistered for the camp they wish to attend. To offset the camp costs, the registration fee is $10 for each camp week, and payment is due at the time of pre-registration.

"Even though there was a registration fee this year, everybody still seems to be excited," Langston said.

Camp hours run from 8 a.m. to noon.

In addition to the Coca-Cola Camp, the Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department offers a day camp at the Aiken County Recreation Center in Graniteville for ages 6-12.

Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily. Swim lessons offered for an additional fee, depending on availability.

Fees are $85 per two-week session. The day camp's hours are 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To register, visit the department's main office at 902 Vaucluse Road. For more information, call 642-7559.
