Wendy the three-legged dog looking for a home
Hi, my name is Wendy, and I have a tale to share with you and your friends.
I will try ti keep it short but a lot has happened.
I was lost (abandoned) last summer in Windsor and spent about eight months living in the woods off of Oak Ridge Club Road.
I had found two friends, and we were often seen crossing the dirt road and sunning ourselves beside an old tractor shed.
We had no idea this location was a popular hunt fixture for the Flat Branch Hounds.
To us, it was empty, it gave us shelter, it offered us water and it was safely off the road.
Trust me, it didn't take more than one hunt meet to realize that this was a special place and a favorite of many other dogs, horses and people.
We promptly gave up this space for the safety of the woods.
We became very lonely and hungry, especially when the weather started to turn cold. Then my two friends went away and left me alone.
I stayed because I knew I had been somewhat safe in this location and it was home to me.
Then, out of nowhere, someone started to leave dry dog food in a rubber tub across the road from the tractor shed.
That helped me to survive but I was still very lonely and hungry.
Then, late one night, I was hit by a car that left my front leg badly mangled.
I couldn't move for days and stayed hiding in the woods despite the bitter cold January nights. In February, my luck turned.
One day, after searching for food, I found a large wire crate with cat food in it. Boy, did that smell good, so in I went and crash, I was caught.
Here's what happened next. I don't know his name, but a man drove by and saw me. He called Aiken County Animal Control, on a Sunday no less, and demanded someone come get me. They did!
The officers gently put me in a truck and left a note on the cage that I had been taken to the County shelter. It was warm and I had a blanket, water and food.
The next day, two women came and took me in their car and we went directly to the vet. It was warm and everyone hugged me and was really nice. I couldn't stop wagging my tail.
The doctor said I had to have my leg removed because it was beyond fixing but promised me it wouldn't hurt and that I would walk and run like I never missed it. Plus, somebody cared and somebody loved me.
I then went to a beautiful home and met other dogs that had been rescued.
We have all become close friends and I am very healthy and happy now.
They don't care that I am three-legged because I can give them a run for their money. The doctor was right.
I know I got lucky because the right people made it happen for me and I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped with my rescue and rehabilitation.
People do care and prove it every day. Look at me now!
Wendy is looking for a new home. She have proven to be a very sweet girl, maybe a year old, totally house broken and loves all people and every dog she has ever met.
