Group organizes Treasures for Charity Night

The Cedar Creek Ladies' Club is bringing local civic organizations to its March meeting in lieu of a program for its Treasures for Charities Night.

The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church on New Ellenton's Main Street.

The meeting will have brief presentations by representatives of more than a dozen local charities, and attendees will have chances in drawings for themed gift baskets assembled by the club members.

"We've got a gardening basket, an Aiken basket, decorator items, a beauty basket, an Irish basket, gourmet foods, golf, art, handcrafted items, jewelry, home improvement items, cigars, and two Day Out of the Creek vacation baskets," club Vice President Cassi Martin said.

"We were amazed and delighted at how generous businesses in Aiken have been, donating things for these baskets," event co-chair Bobbie Kastet said. "One lady said Cedar Creek had brought her so much business, she felt it was time to give some back."

Proceeds will benefit the local charities invited to the event; the club will decide on amounts for each cause in April and disburse the funds in May, according to club President Linda Engel. Participating organizations include ACTS, the Aiken Area Council on Aging, Aiken County Animal Shelter, Child Advocacy Center, Children's Place, Christ Central Ministries, Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons, Golden Harvest Food Bank, the Lydia Project, Marine Corps League, Community Medical Clinic of Aiken County, Relay For Life, Aiken SPCA and STARS.

"We thought it would be fun for the ladies to meet and greet the charities that we support," Martin said. "When we talked to the charities, they were all excited about the opportunity, and there was no sense of competition between them, just cooperation."

The meeting is open to club members and their guests. Non-members interested in attending can contact any club member or call Cassi Martin at 644-0416 or Linda Engel at 642-4107 for information.
