Wreck kills Windsor woman
A bus driver on a morning route in Windsor on Tuesday morning came across the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash and discovered the body of a 53-year-old woman, officials said.
Teresa Coffey, of Stillwater Road in Windsor, died from multiple body trauma.
She was the unrestrained driver and the occupant in a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 at the time of the crash, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, adding that the crash likely occurred between 1 to 2 a.m.
Witnesses who were with the woman earlier in the evening told investigators she left from a nearby home in the pickup around 1 a.m.
The bus driver found the wreckage about 6:14 a.m. on Stillwater Road near Mount Beulah Road in Windsor.
She was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.
Officials with the coroner's office said she had likely died shortly after the rollover.
She was ejected from the truck and the vehicle rolled on top of her, according to reports.
Investigators have been able to ascertain that the vehicle was traveling north on Stillwater Road, which is a dirt road, when the vehicle struck the shoulder and overturned.
The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
Coffey's death is the sixth traffic fatality reported in Aiken County this year.
