Woman surrenders for felony DUI

A North Augusta woman accused late last month of driving the wrong way on the interstate while she was under the influence of alcohol surrendered to the authorities Tuesday on two counts of felony DUI.

Julie P. Lafon, 45, of North Augusta, was booked and released on a $30,000 bond.

She was injured in the crash but treated and released, state troopers said.

The motorists in the vehicle she is accused of striking head-on are Brett Spradley, of Aiken and Ashlyn Miller, of Walterboro.

Spradley was hospitalized at the Medical College of Georgia and released on Feb. 2.

Spradley's passenger was also hospitalized at the Georgia medical facility.

She is still in critical condition, hospital officials say.

The crash happened about 11 p.m., the evening of Jan. 31.

State troopers first got word from motorists traveling on the interstate that a reckless driver was on the wrong side of the interstate, headed west in the eastbound lane near mile marker seven.

That call came in about five minutes before the crash, officials said.

The crash occurred at 11 p.m. at the one mile marker.

Cpl. Paul Brothers, of the S.C. Highway Patrol, said the crash is still being investigated by the state's accident reconstruction team, and that all information is preliminary.

Lafon has been booked and released from the detention center.
