Bath armed robbery suspects nabbed

Acting on a tip, Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested two Aiken area men who were allegedly involved in a December armed robbery in Bath, officials said.

Dwayne A. Butler, 23, of High Point Drive in Beech Island, is charged with three counts of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Deputies said he was armed with a rifle when around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, the two committed the holdup in Bath.

He reportedly took a victim's cellular phone, jacket and $300, witnesses told investigators.

Matthew Butler Jr., 25, of Jehossee Drive in Aiken, is charged with three counts of armed robbery.

Deputies said he also participated in the holdup, reportedly taking keys from the victim.

Agency spokesperson Dave Myers said deputies were tipped off as to where the two men had been staying and arrested them over the weekend.

"They surrendered without incident," Myers said.
