EDITORIAL: A scripted victory
It had all the makings of a Hollywood script. USC Aiken's Pacers were playing host to their across-the-river rivals, No. 6 ranked Augusta State.
It was their first meeting since the Pacers lost to Augusta State to end last season. It was their first meeting since star guard, Javonte Clanton lost his life in a car accident the morning after last year's game. Clanton's mother was at the game. As the clock ticked off the final seconds, the packed house at the USCA Convocation Center began chanting, "Twenty-two, twenty-two," Clanton's jersey number.
To top off the movie-like moment, the Pacers defeated the Jaguars 71-68.
Coach Vince Alexander and his Pacers have brought an exciting, competitive brand of basketball to USCA - one that can match up with the top teams in their division. It is through skill, hard work and excellent coaching, not the fantasy writings of a script writer, that they battle on the hardwood floor game after game.
Congratulations to the Pacers on their impressive win over an outstanding Augusta State team.
