Snake killing unwarranted

The word "shame" hardly covers how Kirby Scott should feel about killing the four-foot-long canebrake rattlesnake in a recent edition.

With all the uninhabited forest areas all around us, there was no reason not to capture the animal (was he scared to?) and release it miles away where it could live its life the way it was meant to.

There is much ignorance in the world regarding the unknown (canebrake rattlesnakes, etc.). The answer is education, which is desperately needed in teaching these people facts about innocent creatures simply trying to survive and live out their lives the way nature intended.

Making the best of McCain loss

The spirit of Aiken County for endorsing Ron Paul as our candidate of choice in the primaries is somewhat perplexing to me. Perhaps a reflection of all the new voices in our community.

The resounding more popular vote cast by our great state for the presidential election speaks volumes. Let's hope our elector delegates take note and vote in accordance.

To the other delegates representing the states of California, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania, my wish is the same. Let the people's voice be heard.

To listen to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tell us that there are hungry children and seniors in this country is troubling. Perhaps Senators Pelosi and Obama can: (a) distribute some of their personal wealth and incomes to help eradicate hunger in the U.S. starting with California, and (b) hire the Black Panther organization to lend a hand in the distribution of the food. After all these are bread and butter issues.

Maybe they will pool their resources together and help California secede from the USA if that's what the citizens still want.

While it's still legal to say so, "God help our great nation, and our leaders." And God help me to find my patriotic fiber to support our next presidential leader. However difficult this challenge will be for me and fellow McCain supporters, I will do so as long as our traditional flag is still flying high over our homeland.

My heart bleeds for our military who will take commands from a president who has never fought for our great nation.

Then again, he has used the buttons on a cell phone phone for international calling. I wonder if he used a prepaid calling card to maximize his $450 million private donation campaign fund? I wonder if he will have time to address the nation's state of the economy (courtesy of the Clinton administration) with the campaign trail now behind him?

Kennedy kids honor veterans

This week was made very special for the Veterans at the Aiken Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Aiken by the kindness of local students.

Kennedy Middle School children made cards to be distributed to veterans receiving services locally. They were creative and thoughtful cards made with generous hearts and the veterans were thrilled to receive recognition from a new generation who understand they are to be honored for their service to our country.

We are so pleased by their sharing of their thoughts and by the talent demonstrated. We salute the talented students at Kennedy Middle School.

When you have children who run around and play outside and could stumble across a rattlesnake yes it is scary. No I don't search for snakes to kill, but if one is in my yard I will kill it.
