Two plead guilty in murder
Two men have pleaded guilty in connection with the 2008 murder of Marquez Tyler.
Matthew Lamar Jackson and Tyrone Akeen Gleaton pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery charges this morning at the Aiken County Courthouse and received 15 years sentences for both charges. The manslaughter sentence was suspended to seven years. The armed robbery sentence will run consecutively with the manslaughter charge.
Both men entered Alford pleas, in which a defendant admit there is sufficient evidence to convict, but the defendant does not admit the act.
Tyler was last seen in November 2008. His body was found in February 2009 in an advanced state of decomposition. At that time, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Tyler had likely been shot and killed in November.
