A North Augusta Public Safety officer has been suspended after he was arrested on allegations he grabbed his girlfriend from a parked vehicle during an argument and threw her down to the ground, causing her to strike her head on the ground.

Brandon L. Cameron was arrested Wednesday and transported to the Aiken County detention center where he was charged with criminal domestic violence.

North Augusta Public Safety immediately suspended the officer, according to an official statement released by the North Augusta Department of Public Safety's spokesperson Lt. Tim Pearson.

Cameron had worked at the department for three years.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office was the arresting agency. According to reports, tempers flared between Cameron and his live-in girlfriend about 10:15 a.m.

According to the incident report, Cameron called 911 from the parking lot of the Windsor Fire Department after an argument between the two escalated.

Only moments before, the two nearly collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, according to reports.

When deputies met with the couple, they said the truck the two were in had two flat tires.

The couple had been traveling west on Highway 78 when the vehicle they were in veered into the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler. The victim was driving, officials said.

The driver reportedly over corrected and went off the roadway.

She told deputies they were both shaken up, and she told Cameron to drive.

The two were out of the vehicle after the near-miss. According to police, the victim said Cameron was going to walk home but did not.

She then grabbed one of four pistols in the vehicle and fired it into the ground to "let him know she was serious" and to leave her alone, deputies said.

She said she fell to her knees and put the weapon on the ground.

Cameron then took the gun from her and put it into the vehicle, according to the report.

She got into the driver's side and sat down. Cameron then reportedly grabbed her by her left arm and attempted to pull her out of the vehicle. In doing so, she said he lost his grip and fell. He got up and grabbed her again by her arm and pulled her out of the truck and reportedly "threw her" on the ground, causing her to hit her head on the ground, the incident report states.

She said he climbed on top of her while she was on the ground and told her that he loved her and was sorry but she needed help, deputies reported.

The couple then got into the vehicle and waited on deputies.

When deputies arrived, they noticed the condition of the car and secured the weapons.

Deputies said that Cameron's story changed several times when they asked him to explain what happened.

He was arrested. She was not charged and was not transported for medical attention.

According to the incident report, the woman was upset that Cameron was going to jail and wanted to pull her statements from the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing, said Aiken County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dave Myers.

The weapon involved was not the officer's duty weapon.

North Augusta Public Safety issued is press release about the suspension about 2:40 p.m.

Bad arrest :  11/21/2009

Great job Brandon in preventing a suicide! The ACSO deputies on that five hour call must have had CYA on their minds instead of the facts. If this would have happended on duty instead of personal life, this officer would have been rewarded! BTW - where did the article say he had a wife and child? Ever heard of legal separation?

Crazy Girl :  11/21/2009

I don't know Mr. Cameron, but I do know the "live-in." He was well withing his rights of protecting himself and restraing her. If you asked me, a good bump on her head might do her some good! Her lies will catch up with her soon enough.

Opinionated Citizen

Good Sheriff's Deputy Candidate :  11/21/2009

Sounds like he would make a good Aiken County Sheriff's Deputy. Abuse of power, misconduct in office, temper and anger out of control. Our bet is that Sheriff Mike Hunt will scarf him up to be another lackey until he needs to throw him under the bus with the rest of his gang of misfits.

Why is it if you comment on any other (non Karen Daily) story your posts appear, but if you post on Karen's it may, and it may not? Are the reporters responsible for hitting the "post to web" button? If so, Karen should not get the joy of picking and choosing which comments get left on her stories. Not only that, but as long as posters are not vulgar, which is the only reason for you to remove a post, you should post them. This isnt the first time this has happened on a Karen story. Dare I say censorship?

Fire Sheriff Chief Mike Hunt :  11/20/2009

Sheriff Hunt is the new fire chief at the Clearwater Fire Deparment. Now that you bring that up the Aiken Standard will publish another one-sided biased article on the subject.

Clearwater Fire Chief :  11/20/2009

Is our sheriff the new chief at the Clearwater Fire Department?

Wrong Fire Department :  11/20/2009

Had this been the clearwater fire department then there would have been the sheriff and all his buddies at the clearwater fire dept. there to rush to the rescue. Is the clearwater fire dept the new sheriffs office. seems like the sheriff is there all the time. What about the sheriff being the new fire chief- conflict ? Bunch of valley red necks.

We have your back :  11/20/2009

I have known brandon for a long time. He is not one to do this sort of thing. It all sounds like a witch hunt to me! It sounds as if he was keeping her from doing something stupid. Brandon we have you back, the truth will come out and you can get back to your life. As for the one who called him trash. Its always easier to call names on paper or on the internet but you prove that you are a coward and would never say to OUR faces!

Shouldn't have been there :  11/20/2009

If he would have been home with his wife and child, this would not have happened. Now the two of them are being dragged through this embarrassing event when it isn't their fault at all. Sounds like he picked one crazy girl and one dramatic life over a peaceful, loving home. When you play you pay, and he is paying. The only difference is the girl should have gone to jail too. Shooting a gun to show she was "serious"? WHAT?

Nobody

unfair :  11/19/2009

I know this officer and his family for a long time and there is no way in this world that he did this and I hope the truth will come out and for the jack a** that called him trash and junk like that there is trash all over this county so look at your self before you call others names

Heat of the moment :  11/19/2009

None of us know what we will do in the heat of the moment, we are not above the law or acting stupid. Remember we are all human and make mistakes that can't be taken back. Don't ever say you would never do that because we are all subject to doing things we wouldn't ordinarily do.

ACSO :  11/19/2009

A prime example of the Mighty Sherriff Hunt making a scene. SLED should investigate this not ACSO! If this were a deputy, it would of been covered up. I hate it for Mr. Cameron. this totally sounds like trumped up charges. If Hunt had the guts he would let SLED get involved (he lets them get involved in everything eles). Oh yeah where was mighty mouse during all this......at the Cleatwater Fire Dept. with the rest of the babies!

:  11/19/2009

why don't you investigate this incident and let us know what you find instead of letting the professionals do their jobs? maybe you would do a better job

live- in's :  11/19/2009

live-in's always get you in trouble.

As I said anywhere else :  11/19/2009

I've know this officer for a while and it is way beyond his character. This "women" discharges a fire arm then gets back in the vehicle where there are more firearms, and he goes to jail??? OK I get it next time he should let her shoot him and they'll both go to jail. Why isn't SLED investigating this??? This is a totally unacceptable practice by the ACSO. And where is the NAPS to attempt to defend him so SLED can investigate this?

Married Man :  11/19/2009

He's married to someone else. Guess he deserves what he has... some crazy girl. You cheat; you lose. 'Nuff said.

ME

Psycho :  11/19/2009

I know the guy personally and he left his wife for this crazy girl. But he's not all that innocent. I know of other accounts where he's been the psycho one. But in all fairness, the both should have went to jail.

Live-In Girlfriend :  11/19/2009

Live-In Girl Friend ? C.D.V ? Fellas it's just not worth it. Marry Um or Leave Um. You could be arrested and terminated at any time if the Law is Enforced.
From The S.C. Code of Laws
16-15-60. Adultery or fornication.
Any man or woman who shall be guilty of the crime of adultery or fornication shall be liable to indictment and, on conviction, shall be severally punished by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars nor more than five hundred dollars or imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than one year or by both fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court.
16-15-80. "Fornication" defined.
"Fornication" is the living together and carnal intercourse with each other or habitual carnal intercourse with each other without living together of a man and woman, both being unmarried.

RED NECK CHRONICALS :  11/19/2009

Another example of how these rednecks and valley rats act here in Aiken county. The lady in question was probally his first cousin. These people are White Trash!

They just need a little help :  11/19/2009

I think these two are fine upstanding citizens who just got caught in a bad situation at the wrong time. It could happen to anyone. Really. I'm a counselor by trade and could help them if they admit they have a problem, or any one of my colleagues could help them if t hey prefer and would love to have them on my show. Please show compassion to them. It could have happened to you.

Arrest :  11/19/2009

I think she should have been arrested, not him. She spounds like she needs help, but as always the man goes to jail. She could have killed them both. The system is wrong, this man should have not been suspened. But just like my crazy sister in law they always take the woman's side.

Cathy

fishy :  11/19/2009

ok so she had already discharged one round into the ground. cameron had taken the gun put it in the car and the she got back in the car. um lets see put her on the ground or leave her in the car where the gun she has already fired is at. well officer cameron always remember ur life is more important than ur job. u know the hunt mafia wants to boost their credibility. i would def be giving mr huff or whittle a call. of course she doesnt go to jail typical aiken county.

:  11/19/2009

having worked with the police before-I can tell you that as soon as any girl calls and claims such and such guy hit her then bam-they go and assume the guy is guilty without ever hearing his side of the story. this is totally unfair. even in this instance it sounds like the girl was not mentally balanced.

arrest :  11/19/2009

Without question, they both should have been arrested.

Crazy B-ch!! :  11/19/2009

She sounds like is crazy and needs some help !! I don't think the officers should be arrested or lose his job !! He was probably trying to get her out of the truck bc he would worried bout other people she might endanger on the road !! i think he did the right thing!!

WHAT!!!! :  11/19/2009

Sounds like she definitely needs some counselling.... and maybe a pill or two.

:  11/19/2009

Good Lord! She swerved in front of an 18 wheeler, then pulled a gun and shot it at the ground and HE was arrested for knocking her to the ground??? WTH?!! She needs to be locked up for her own safety and he seemed to have been showing incredible restraint to just have knocked her to the ground.

Both should have went to jail :  11/19/2009

Sounds to me like BOTH should have went to jail. First of all, she pulls out a gun, fires a shot, drives wrecklessly and she walks free.
I think the officer or officers involved may need additional training. She should have been arrested as well.
