A cappella group creates music scholarship

South Boundary, an Aiken a cappella group, has established a music scholarship at USC Aiken which will be award to a student studying music at the university.
The singing group was organized in 2007 and includes 16 men who perform in Aiken and throughout the CSRA.
Al Bey, a South Boundary member who serves on the group's operating board, said the organization recently developed a mission statement to help guide the organization.
"One component of that is a philanthropic thrust in which we have an ongoing program to support the development of musicians," Bey said. "Our first project was to initiate the Boys' Choir at Chukker Creek Elementary School. The second project was to establish an endowed scholarship in music at USCA."
South Boundary made its first gift of $2,000 to USCA at a concert Sunday, featuring South Boundary, the USCA Concert Choir and the boys' choir. That performance was the first for the boys' choir.
"We hope the scholarship will encourage students to establish careers in the field of music," Bey said.
"It's our small way of helping needy students and hopefully bringing a little more musical culture and enjoyment into the world."
