United Way surpasses goal
You did it. The Aiken County community came through in a remarkable way again this year in support of the United Way campaign.
Donations large and small added up not only to meet the $2.45 million goal that was announced in August but to exceed it by more than $250,000. The final tally of $2.7 million was thought to be impossible when the campaign began. Remember, this was in the midst of a huge recession. Unemployment in the county is now at 10 percent, and many people with jobs are seeing lower income than a year ago.
Yet people opened their hearts and their checkbooks and gave more generously than they did last year.
Perhaps it is because they recognize that the needs are greater than ever for those who get support from United Way partnering agencies. Perhaps they are so grateful to have a job at all that they find extra dollars for those without. Whatever the reason, the people, businesses and industries of Aiken County came through in a major way for United Way.
Thanks to all who gave and to all who live in Aiken County - the United Way.
