Brush fires fought on Whiskey Road
A brush fire broke out on Whiskey Road in the empty lot next to Mi Rancho. Scanner traffic reported up to seven different fires in the area. Firefighters responded quickly, and, within the hour the blaze was extinguished. However, the southbound lanes of Whiskey Road near the Country Inn & Suites were blocked while Aiken Public Safety fought the fire.
Lynching warrants issued for three
Warrants for second-degree lynching are being issued for three suspects after they attacked a man on Abbeville Avenue on Friday. The victim was assaulted by three subjects while he was sitting outside a relative's home.
A car pulled up containing his ex-wife and two men, who, the victim claimed, jumped from the vehicle and assaulted him. The victim sustained several injuries.
Downtown eatery was broken into
A little after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Aiken Public Safety responded to an alarm at VZ's Big Easy Restaurant located at 233 Chesterfield St. Upon arrival, the responding officer discovered the front door had been kicked in. The building was checked for suspects, and none were located. The owner didn't initially report that anything had been stolen.
Pendleton Street home burglarized
A home on Pendleton Street was burglarized late Friday evening. The subject kicked open the front door of the residence and stole several items including a 12-gauge shotgun, a laptop computer, a 27-inch tube television, a digital camera and several iPods.
Rocks thrown at vehicle on I-20
Vandalism was reported along Interstate 20 on Friday afternoon around 4:40 p.m. The victim was traveling in the westbound lane at mile marker 22 when two subjects threw a handful of rocks at the passing vehicle, causing the windshield to crack in several places.
